Bentley Derby Tool Kit

Pieces of the Derby Tool kit in a replica Silver Ghost tool roll.

One of the more interesting topics concerning our new Bentley is what we are missing. By that I mean the exhaustive tool kit and supplies that were originally delivered with the car from new.

Fortunately our friend Nick Northeast came by and showed us his impressive collection that accompanies his own Derby Bentley. We wasted no time to document Nick’s entire kit which can number over 50 pieces depending on the car.

Nick tells us that the kit is similar to the standard Rolls-Royce output, but has Bentley specific pieces such as early F.B. spanners and the unobtainable Bentley Motors Ltd. feeler gauge.

The harder to find Bentley-specific parts of the kit.

***Update**

Peter Charlton has found this exceptional Derby tool kit and has kindly let us feature it on this page.

It looks like the type tucks away in the trunk is sometimes integraded on a separate tray or on the inside of the trunk panel itself.

He says “Looks to be unused and totally original.
They used both FB and F series box spanners, I guess the coach builder used what he had available.
Pliers look to be nickel plated and no markings.
The open ended spanners have no markings as you would expect, but are modified RR tools then cadmium coated. Even the small contacts spanner has had it’s markings removed.
I did a bit of searching in the RROC archives. I found a 3 1/2 litre tool list. It clearly states that the open ended tools are to be made from modified RR tools.”

1935 Bentley 3½ Litre

Today we had the privilege and pleasure to purchase this 1935 Bentley 3½ Litre Park Ward Sports Saloon chassis number B-90-EF.

This car was imported from England to Victoria, British Columbia in the seventies and has been a fixture on Saturna Island for several decades.

We purchased it from the family of I.C.MacQuarrie who had owned the car for over 40 years before landing in our shop and changing hands.

All tags seemingly indicate that the car retains its original aluminum body and 3½ Liter engine that match the numbers on the chassis so we are quite excited.

More to come!

Winterizing for the Year End.

What a great day for these beauties to enjoy their last day out to play.

Nearing the end of our driving season on the coast, now is the time to winterize the car for storage.

We recommend checking coolant for antifreeze, keeping tire pressures up, putting fuel stabilizer in the system (before the last drive) and positioning the soft top up to prevent shrinkage.

Only Original Once, 40th XKE Coupe Found by Coys

UPDATE: Sold for £88,000! (~$141,600 USD or $147,900 CAD)

We highly encourage any of our customers to head over to England and buy this E-Type. We will let you be first in the cue for a full resto!

Syndicated from Supercars.net:

Coys are proud to announce that they have unearthed a collection of cars from France including the 40th right-hand drive E-Type Coupe which will be on offer at their The Spirit of Motoring, Ascot sale on October 26th.

What’s more exciting about this offer is the fact that chassis 860040 is completely unrestored and retains the bulk of its original factory fit and finish.

Coys specialists found the car in France where it had been sitting in dry storage since July 1974! That storage may have been dry, but the moisture in the air was not kind to the iron which is now attempting to return back to its original rust state.

None-the-less, this Jag leaves the next owner with the tough decision on how far to take the refurbishment.

In 1974 860040 was painted by its current owner from the original color scheme of Warwick Grey with Dark Blue interior to what he describes as Aubergine (Eggplant in French). Image by Coys of Kensington.

The RHD interior shows dilapidated, but entirely original door panels. Leather on the front seats shows a nice even patina. Image by Coys of Kensington.

View of the luggage area is not as pretty with obvious signs that the shelf floor was out and not stored properly. Spare tire cover sits is on top. Image by Coys of Kensington.

Engine bay shows the venerable 3.8 as somewhat grimey, corroded, but complete. Coys reports that the engine does turn over. Image by Coys of Kensington

Exhaust side does not look as good. Obvious signs of Type 1 corrosion that will need careful, loving attention.

The original data tag has warped over time, but is in remarkably good condition. 860040 is generally the 40th E-type coupe produced. Image by Coys of Kensington.
